For over 20 years, Gil has provided executive, operational and program leadership in organizations dedicated to serving children and families. Most recently he served as the Executive Director with Jewish Family Service of Austin, and previously he held leadership roles with Common Threads, the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America National Office, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas, and Lifeworks Austin Youth and Family Services. He began his career providing direct services to at-risk youth, teens and their families, first in a wilderness therapy program, and later in crisis counseling, emergency shelter and transitional living settings. Gil built on these foundational experiences by moving into management roles and has led teams in both prevention services for at-risk youth, and intervention services for homeless, runaway and foster youth who had experienced child abuse. He has served on a variety of community boards including as Chair of the Travis and Williamson Counties Federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program Board, serving the Austin, TX metro area. Gil has a Masters of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin, and has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Texas for many years.
In 2020, Gil and his family relocated from Austin to Bend, Oregon, fulfilling a longstanding wish to live in the beautiful and dynamic environment of Central Oregon. Outside of his role with KIDS Center, Gil enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons and their dog, exploring the outdoors, exercising, reading, cooking and experiencing live music.
