5 Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Tips You Can Do From Home
Start talking!
Begin talking to your kids at an early age. It is never too early to talk about boundaries, body parts, and privacy.
Educate!
Over 90% of the time, children are abused by someone they and their caregivers know and trust and that’s way we need to educate beyond just “stranger danger” with your child. Talk with your child about safe and unsafe touches and touches or situations that make them feel uncomfortable.
Keep talking!
Encourage open communication with your child. Give children permission to tell you about anything happening to them and create opportunities to do so.
Talk to adults too!
Talk openly with other adults about child sexual abuse prevention. Whether on a phone call, Zoom meeting, or at a social distant gathering, there is always an opportunity to bring up protecting children.
Trust your instincts!
We have instincts for a reason and if you feel that something doesn’t seem safe, report to the Oregon Hotline at 855-503-SAFE (7233) or your local law enforcement.
